Trump Says 'Total Hypocrite' Neil Young Asked Him for Money

Donald Trump is saying Neil Young is a hypocrite for complaining about his presidential campaign’s use of Young’s song “Rockin’ in the Free World,” while at the same time hitting The Donald up for cash.

Trump tweeted today that Young recently came to his office seeking funds for his high-end audio player Pono.
Trump even provided a photo to prove it.

  1. Gee, I wonder if Neil Young's wish to dissociate from Trump has anything to do with his own financial interest, i.e. keeping his longtime fans happy.

  2. I dunno...
Business is business, politics is politics (theoretically).
I can understand happily doing business with a guy, but not supporting his politics. And the song WAS used at a POLITICAL function.
Also, I'm a huge fan of Neil Young, but the Donald: not so much.

  3. Just like Springsteen getting mad at Reagan for using Born in the USA in 84, I don't think Trump understands the tone of the lyrics to Rockin in the Free World. Yet, it is somewhat fitting in a backhanded way vis a vis the current day US and Trump for prez. Also, I don't think soliciting someone for an investment implies any kind of endorsement of that person's politics or entitles them "license" to use a copywritten song for a political campaign "branding" tool. That being said, the petty contretemps and Trump's dexterity with modern media and communications are are, in a pathetic way, amusing.

  4. Another thing, I always found it vaguely unsettling that Ol' Neil is wearing a Mao cap on the cover of the album titled Rockin in the Free World...

  5. As we like to say down South, "I hope Neil Young will remember a Southern man don't need him around anyhow."
