Confederate Controversy has Flags Flying Off Shelves

“Any time there is a controversy about any flag, we sell more flags,” said Pete Van de Putte, of Dixie Flag Manufacturing in San Antonio. “It’s not like selling tires or washing machines," according to AP.

Van de Putte says that Dixie Flag has no intention of stopping production of the flag.

  1. We are seeing the libertarian argument against criminalizing discrimination playing out here. Some flag manufacturers are discriminating against Dixie history and culture. They will lose that part of their business, while those who continue to produce the Dixie flags gain. Same as when a bakery discriminates against gay marriage, losing that slice of the business (pun intended), but someone else gains. With a free market, winners and losers sort themselves out.
