Well, I am glad we got that straight. The latest salvo in the War on Reality comes from the UK paper the Telegraph, which is a safe haven for some who would claim—literally despite the evidence—that global warming isn't real. The article, written by Christopher Booker (who flat out denies human-induced global warming), is somewhat subtly titled "The Fiddling With Temperature Data Is the Biggest Science Scandal Ever." In it, Booker claims that climate scientists have adjusted temperature readings from thermometers in Paraguay to make it look like the temperature is increasing, when the measurements off the detectors actually show the opposite. The theme of the article is that scientists "manipulated" the data on purpose to exaggerate global warming. This is nonsense. The claim is wrong. The scientists didn't manipulate the data, they processed it.

The scientists didn't manipulate the data, and Congress didn't declare war.
ReplyDeleteI still don't know what to believe... I feel like everyone thinks I'm an idiot if I say the data is manipulated. Is there proof, or not?! Is it manipulated, or not?!
ReplyDeleteUse the Force Luke, what does it tell you?
DeleteGov't paid scientists, whose job relies on being of use(to gov't), asked to provide data by same gov'ts(who are all bankrupt) for the possibility of determining if the globe is warming, which will any finding in the positive to justify their use of taxes to "stop the warming"....what does the Force tell you Luke?
I simply went and proved it for myself. The easiest way is to grab an old plot from archive.org's copy of NASA's website. Then grab the same plot from the most current report from NASA. Over lay the two with your favorite image editor and watch how the past has changed. Also can be done with the actual data in excel. I've done both. Just a spot check and saw for myself how they are cooling the more distant past and warming recent years.
DeleteMore difficult to do is raw vs. final comparisons and removing estimated data. This I haven't done for myself but I have no reason to doubt the results I've seen from those who have.
Lefties are are hilarious, if not pure evil.
ReplyDeleteThey're both alright. Although I'd just say sick, evil, and hilarious.
DeleteLefties and logic: An endless source of horrific hilarity.
ReplyDeleteMethinks Mother Jones chose this particular article to discredit because the author is a historian, not a scientist. Easy to cherry pick one appeal to authority fallacy and use it to discredit evidence that is also presented by more credible sources like actual Meteorologists, Climate Scientists, and scientists of other fields of study.
