The Advantages of Taking Both Sides (Or No Side on an Issue)

In the wake of the shootings of two NYPD cops by Ismaaiyl Brinsley, the "cops are your friend" crowd is taking Rand Paul to task for being not being supportive enough of coppers

They are running this pic of Rand with Big Al.

Even Koch-funded Reason magazine is running the pic. It should be noted that the code for the picture at Reason identifies the pic as "the-handshake-of-doom.jpg"

But you know, this is Rand. And Matt Welch, in the Reason piece accompanying the photo, uses Rand's skill at dancing on all sides of issues, to deflect the attacks aimed at Rand:
There's a whole lotta conflatin' going on here—Paul actually didn't opine one way or the other on the Grand Jury decision in Ferguson

  1. You act like Rand is selling his soul to Mephistopheles in exchange for the chance to win the nomination. Granted, Rand has taken a different tactic than his father to promote the ideas of liberty. Ron worked from the bottom up and Rand saw how that panned out and is working at another angle. But the way you and other hardcore Paulites pound him day in and day out is doing more damage to liberty than Rand is by "maneuvering" to gain more influence in politics. We are on the same team. GET OVER YOURSELF. Bash the politicians who really are wolves in sheep's clothing like Ted Cruz who loves the embargo and forgets his first allegiance as a Senator is to the US Constitution--not Cubans.
