The Seattle City Council announced this week that the second Monday of October will henceforth be known as “Indigenous Peoples’ Day,” rather than Columbus Day.
According to The Seattle Times, council member Kshama Sawant explained that the resolution is a way for people to honor the memory of the many millions of Native Americans who were killed by European colonization, instead of the man who “played such a pivotal role in the worst genocide humankind has ever known.”
Let's see if she will call for the changing the name of Memorial Day to Hiroshima/Nagasaki Day to honor the memory of those who were killed by unnecessary US atomic bombings.
