Trump Urges Israel to Bar Congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib From Visiting the Country: 'They hate all Jewish people'

MULTIPLE UPDATES: Trump the Bully

This is positively bizarre.

President  Trump is urging Israel to follow through on its apparent decision to bar Democratic congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib from visiting the country.

"It would show great weakness if Israel allowed Rep Omar and Rep Tlaib to visit," Trump tweeted this morning. "They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds."

First, what concern is it of Trump's if Israel shows "great weakness."

Isn't he president of the United States and isn't that a big enough job?

The US should stay completely out of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Trump's pro-Israel policy ignores the advice of George Washington to stay out of the affairs of foreign countries.

This is Trump the bully. It is never about dialogue and diplomacy, it is always about being the bully.

Perhaps he thinks his job is to Tweet insane things to keep his adoring fans entertained. If that's the case, maybe he would be nice enough not to engage in policy prescriptions via Tweet and just keep himself occupied Tweeting about women's looks and playing golf?

  2. Trump doesn't like congresswomen who are anti-US, so he used his Israel connections to make these two women look like the losers that they are.

So what? That doesn't justify butting in another country's foreign relations. Plus the president and now his WH is engaging in embarrassing behavior by giving support to a policy that bars US elected officials from entering a country that is presumably friendly to the U.S.

So Trump being beholden to a hostile foreign country (Israel) isn't being anti-US?

    3. to mash: The 2 congresswomen are vocal and direct about their hate for the US. Whereas Trump is pro-Israel because he knows they exert enormous amounts of power over the entire world. The only way he can defeat their power is to pretend to be on their side.

    4. Brilliant, limelemon! That cagey Trump is pulling the wool over the eyes of the gullible Israelies! How insightful of you!

  3. Trump excels at “punching down.” His inane Tweet is more likely to generate sympathy for Omar and Tlaib instead of disdain.

  4. On one hand I don't for Israel all that much, but I do think this is pretty funny. Those two congresswomen are stupid POS's anyway. Maybe someone can explain why they do not have a libertarian outlook unless that is a cultural issue. But hey, keep believing that who we let in here does not matter.

    1. Well Lab, even white folks, as you show constantly, don’t have a libertarian outlook. Maybe you could explain that? Or is it a cultural issue?

    2. That's true, but importing more trash as represented by these women will not lead to a libertarian outlook. Maybe you could find me one a Sharia law loving Muslim libertarian?

  6. Who would want to visit a terrorist state like Israhell to begin with. Particularly if you dont agree with them!

  7. OM: That doesn't justify butting in another country's foreign relations.

Note the double standard. Our country's foreign relations are exempt from OM's statement above, right? We can't set up programs for legal ways for immigrants to enter our country - just let every terrorist, murderer, rapist, etc. in. But Trump has to abide by whatever restrictions OM thinks are appropriate and isn't allowed an opinion or a suggestion to another country. What a joke OM is. Am I right, people?

OM is being consistent, though. He wants people that are or would be destructive to another country (violent criminals into the US, commie Congresswomen into Israel) to freely enter whenever they like and the country being invaded (even if by a handful of people) should have no say about it. What a nice guy.

btw, I've mentioned this before, but since OM consistently lies about it, I should probably mention again I'm no fan of Trump's. I think all the stuff Bob posts about what a bum Trump is, is great. My comments re immigration are unrelated to Trump - this issue was going on before him, and will continue after him, since he is never going to build the wall.

  8. The power of the president of the United States lends more than a mere “opinion” or “suggestion” to other national leaders. They are ultimatums.

  9. It's concerning that the popular wave these days seems to be governments taking direct action against specific individuals in order to punish them for their political views. And it's hypocritical that conservatives and Republicans deplore it when it happens to their own (Great Britain banning entry for Michael Savage, Lauren Southern; The British persecution of Tommy Robinson for his anti-Islamofascism), but get euphoric when it happens to progressives and Democrats, as in this instance.

There is a strong Western custom and practice of respecting the wall of separation between government laws and acts targeting specific individuals; Here in this country, the U.S. Constitution prohibits "Bills of Attainder" that would operate to specifically punish via legislation any particular individual (and I guess company or corporation). I wonder how long that's going to last? Every other foundational pillar of Western Civilization seems eroding, so why not this too?
