Will Walter Block Start 'Libertarians for Bernie'?

The following email exchange took place between Dr. Walter Block and me.

Subject: Libertarians for Bernie?

Hi Walter,

Given your reasoning for supporting Trump, based on this:

https://www.lewrockwell.com/2019/04/patrick-j-buchanan/is-bernie-stealing-trumps-no-more-wars-issue/

would you support your old high school buddy over Trump, if the race ends up being between the two of them?

Best,

Bob

Dear Bob:

This is a brilliant insight on your part. You offer an excellent attempt at a reductio ad absurdum. I appreciate this.  You base your comment on my thought that foreign policy is more important than economics and personal liberty put together, in that the former greatly effects the latter two, and not the other way around. Yes, my main support for Donald over Hillary was that in 2015-2016 he was the peace candidate, she was the war-monger.

Donald versus Bernie in 2020? Yes, maybe, I’m not sure. Bernie isn’t that good on foreign policy, and Donald is way better than Bernie on economic issues and political correctness. But, you are right, I would give a slight nod to Bernie over Donald, if what Buchanan says rings true over the next several months, and these indications that Bernie is more of a peace candidate than Donald (Trump was the peace candidate while running for office, but, his recent actions, as you have incisively pointed out, are a great disappointment). However, let me try to do you one better. How’s about Donald versus Tulsi Gabbard? Here, I give the clear endorsement for the latter over the former. Tulsi, like Bernie, is horrid on economics. But when it comes to foreign policy, Tulsi is practically a Ron Paul, and as a libertarian, I find it difficult to give greater praise to anyone than that.

Best regards,

Walter
