Facebook To Intensify Its Censorship

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Tuesday that the company has already begun to implement a system that ranks news organizations based on trustworthiness, and promotes or suppresses its content based on that metric, reports BuzzFeed.

Zuckerberg said the company has gathered data on how consumers perceive news brands by asking them to identify whether they have heard of various publications and if they trust them.

“We put [that data] into the system, and it is acting as a boost or a suppression, and we’re going to dial up the intensity of that over time," he said. "We feel like we have a responsibility to further [break] down polarization and find common ground.”

As a private company, Facebook should certainly be allowed to do whatever it wants but this move is not going to be friendly for the new or the non-conventional.

It's just one more reason libertarians need to build their own website traffic sources that are workarounds to the establishment connected social networks.

Mark Zuckerberg is not about choice and truth. He is answering to different masters.

  1. There's no lying allowed with contracts. Overt lying like this must be a breach of someone's contract.

(There's no murder, theft, pillage or rape allowed with private property.)

If a contract exists, it should specify the terms/damages in the event of a breach. In the case of Facebook, I don’t see how users could expect to be entitled to damages, since it’s a free service.

If Zuckerburg wants to use his platform to disseminate state propaganda, that’s unfortunate. But it is his platform, so he has the right to do so.

    2. Like most problems, this problem disappears in a PPS. Just evict liars from the neighborhood.

I'm not sure that the service is "free". Facebook gets your personal data in exchange for whatever service it provides. And they very rich off it. It sounds like "consideration" to me to support a contract.

They can always change their terms of service and describe their censorship policy truthfully.
