Milo Yiannopoulos Discusses Kevin Spacey

I really had no plan to run four videos in a row and had no plans to run Milo, but he is very good here.

  1. Should libertarians care about the culture war?

On one hand, 90% of it seems to be harping on largely-irrelevant distinctions between people who would otherwise have no quarrel, which is hugely counterproductive.

On the other hand, it seems to be an (I would say absurdly disproportionately) outsized motivator of political action, amplified by people’s desire to signal in-group solidarity. As such, it seems like it might be perilous to ignore.

So is it worth diving into the muck? And will enough people really be receptive to the notion of “live and let live” for it to be worthwhile?

    1. Great question.

As libertarians, we care about reducing state intervention in society. If the culture war is one cause of people's cry for increased state intervention, then I think we need to participate. We can either try to persuade folks that the war is absurd and thus doesn't warrant state intervention, or that, even if the war has something to it, state intervention is the worst possible solution.

We already only persuade a small sliver of people to reject the state for all purposes. I suspect we might get a larger sliver of people to reject the state for specific purposes. Perhaps we can build from there.

    2. "Live and Let Live" is a cultural value. Considering that, it would be better if libertarians did engage in a cultural interaction to influence culture in the live and let live direction. The NAP does not survive a degenerate culture.

  2. What we call the culture war is really just the dissolving of the illusion of a single unitary American culture that was created by mid 20th century mass communication.

    1. I don't know. The image of the schoolyard alpha guy saying "Hey, did you hear what he said about you? Are ya just gonna sit there and take it?" comes to mind. I fell victim to that in 8th grade at the bus stop and wound up in a slug fest with a black kid (both races did the egging on). Pretty quickly we looked at each other and said WTF? He ended up as a friend.
So what I'm trying to say is, is that somebody is stirring the pot.

    2. Really? 70 million+ immigrants from cultures and nations that have no concept of or respect for American culture and values has NOTHING to do with it? Idiot.
