Trump Bombshell in an Otherwise Boring Debate

During the debate last night, Hugh Hewitt asked the candidates how they would deal with ISIS. It was no surprise that Ted Cruz and John Kasich both called for troops on the ground, Kasich being the most insanely hawkish,

But Donald Trump also said (starts at 2:23) that he would put between 20,000 and 30,000 troops on the ground to wipe out ISIS.

Antiwar's Justin Raimondo reacted immediately:

The idea that ISIS is a serious threat to the US is absurd. Further, it is hard to believe that an outside military force can take out a guerrilla force on its own territory, when many of them can just slip and hide in plain sight amidst the general population. Remember, a significant number of those fighting for ISIS are local Sunnis, who hate the US. Unless there is massive long-term occupation (and for what reason?) Trump is dreaming.

The only thing US boots on the ground in ISIS territory will do is fuel more intense blowback, resulting in more terrorist attacks in the US, which given Trump's disposition would mostly result in more crackdowns on our freedoms here in the US, to stop such terrorist attacks.

There are a lot of unknowns surrounding what kind of president Trump would be. He could surprise and be a positive force but there are many indications that he could be a very authoritarian force that would take the US in a terrible direction.

The US is not ready for revolution.

He'll do what he's told like every POTUS has since JFK.

  2. He did say he was going to take the oil. I think the "king" analogy that was on Mr Rockwell's Political Theater might be right, as opposed to the Hitler comparison. But you are right about him being a wild card.
