Kid Rock: I'm Mostly a Libertarian Who Supports Trump

Kid Rock thinks the U.S. needs a "f---ing change", and he thinks Donald Trump is the presidential candidate who will deliver it.

"I'm digging Trump. I feel like a lot of people, whether you're a Democrat or a Republican, feel like if you get Hillary or Bernie, or you get Rubio or Cruz or whoever, there's going to be the same s---," he told Rolling Stone in an interview published Monday.

My feeling: let the motherf---ing business guy run it like a f----ing business. And his campaign has been entertaining as s---," he said.

Kid Rock also said he thinks Trump will win the nomination and has mostly agreed with what the Manhattan billionaire mogul has been hawking.

"Well, yeah, on a certain level," he said. "It's entertaining as s---."

Note to Kid: Trump is not a libertarian and the great libertarian  F. A. Hayek warned about "can do" leaders like Trump. See Chapter 10: Why the Worst Get on Top, in Hayek's The Road to Serfdom.

  1. "Libertarians" for Trump has to be one of the wierdist lexicons in this election

  2. Trump just needs to support raising federal taxes on alcohol for flag waving Kid to be off Trump’s train in a New York minute.

  3. This is exactly why it is ridiculous to believe that Rand Paul could -- in any way -- damage libertarianism even though he's a disappointing candidate. People don't understand libertarianism to begin with, and even if a perfect libertarian were elected, all the people who crave getting the power back would distort the meaning of libertarianism.

    1. Of course Rand can damage it, he does nothing but muddy the waters and confuse and discourage the liberty movement.

Rand may be the worst thing to happen to the liberty movement in a long time.

    2. Ask yourself what would have happened to the "liberty movement" if Rand hadn't run.

The reality is that it wouldn't have been much different.

In terms of "muddying the water", most people do not and have never understood libertarianism -- even those supporting Ron Paul. Most people want to believe they are for "liberty", but they don't want to put a lot of effort into it. They also generally don't want to challenge their own "obvious" belief system. I've converted quite a few people over to libertarianism, but it takes years and lots of patience. People who convert quickly are just as likely to leave quickly.

Rand was not a great candidate, nor probably even a good one, but he didn't do any damage to the "liberty movement". To think he caused damage is just a rationalization of failure that is, in reality, caused by the fact that most people are not truly "for" liberty no matter what trite comes from their mouths.

  4. I read where Kid Rock splits his time between Detroit and Alabama (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/the-killer-inside-kid-rock-20150226) where he spends his time getting drunk and shooting wild pigs with a pistol. Hopefully living closer to the Mises institute is having an influence on him.
