"Wouldn't it be nice if our government could build a wall on the border under budget and ahead of schedule?!" - my @SRQRepublicans speech.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 21, 2015
Yeah, I don't think that it would be "nice" at all.
First of all, if Donald Trump is successful at creating projects "under budget and ahead of schedule" in the marketplace, than he should continue to do so. Customers who voluntarily hand over their money, along with profit & loss signals, will keep a good check on Trump's activities.
Government doesn't work that way at all. There is no profit & loss, and you steal all of your revenues. Under that kind of setup, the focus of the game is to secure your bureaucratic power, and constantly increase your "budget". Here's the kicker...failure brings about budget increases. We see it every day....XYZ department is failing....Increase it's budget! Like clockwork.
If government operated efficiently, America would've long ago been turned into a nation of total serfs. Efficient government wouldn't be "nice," as Trump seems to believe, it would be bondage.
Second, if America is going to someday be "great again," as Trump likes to regularly say, it won't be by building another Great Wall! Instead, America must move in the opposite direction. The gargantuan American Welfare State must be shut down. No more taking of other people's stuff.
In addition to that, private property owners would get to decide who may enter upon their property, whether to live, or to work. If you want to let someone from Mexico bunk with you, that's your business. It's your property. If you want to hire someone from Brazil, that's your business, because it's your business.
That is the type of environment that would be "nice."
Not walls & welfare.

Right on target, as usual, Chris.
