If you were pricing this in September 2021, there would be four payments remaining (T in the formula below) because the bond matures in November 2024. The final payment includes the face value of the bond, so the payments would be as follows: year 1: $16.20; year 2: $16.20; year 3: $16.20; and year 4: $1,016.20.**Determine an appropriate discount rate**: The future payments listed above need to be discounted (reduced) to equal their present value today. To do this, first look up current rates for new-issue bonds that are similar to the bond you’re pricing. If you want to find the current value of a five-year 2019 T-bond, look at the interest rate being offered on new five-year T-bonds.
