Matier and Ross at the San Francisco Chronicle have the scoop:
For nearly as long as he’s been president, Barack Obama has stayed at the InterContinental Hotel when he’s been in San Francisco. We’re told the hotel even has a set of bullet proof windows that it installs in the penthouse when he’s there.
But Obama isn’t staying in SoMa on this visit. In a move that took many by surprise, the presidential motorcade rolled up to the Fairmont Hotel atop Nob Hill on Thursday.
Word is, there were just too many complaints from the InterContinental’s neighbors at Fifth and Howard about the extensive street shutdowns for presidential visits over the past six years — and it was time to move to higher ground.
