Russian journalist Alexander Shchetinin, a severe critic of Vladimir Putin, has been found dead in his Kiev, Ukraine apartment. He was shot in the head.
He was found on the balcony by his friends, who came to congratulate him on his birthday," according to the Kyiv Operatyvny.
Operatyvny reported that Alexander had suffered a gunshot wound to his head, and a gun was found underneath his chair. Sources allege that the case is being investigated as a suicide, as Shchetinin had reportedly sent an email to a relative saying he had planned to commit suicide.
Shchetinin had given up his Russian citizenship and became a Ukrainian citizen, taking up residence in Kyiv in an apartment on Kostiantynivska Street.
